Common Law Admission Test - Overview

 

Introduction

CLAT is conducted as per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the convenience of the students seeking admission to various National Law Universities in the country. CLAT is an India level Law common entrance exam, conducted on rotational basis by 19 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their UG and PG degree programmes as per the eligibility, reservation and other criteria are laid down under the respective Statutes of the participating Universities.

Fee Details: Candidates will be required to pay the requisite application fee. The payment can be made online through credit/debit/net banking methods. For General/OBC/SAP and other category candidates will have to pay Rs 4000/- and those belonging to SC/ST/PWD/ will have to pay Rs 3500/-.

 

Exam Pattern - CLAT Examination Pattern

 

(I) For UG courses: CLAT exam will be conducted through CBT (Computer Based Test). Online CBT test will be held on 13th May 2018. Questions will be Objective Type (Multiple Choice) will be provided in English. Every correct answer candidate will get one mark whereas every incorrect answer 0.25 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Elementary Mathematics: Number Systems, Surds and Indices, Square Roots, Fractions and Decimals, H.C.F. and L.C.M, Simplification, Logarithms, Averages, Ratio and proportion, Interests, Percentages, Discounts, Partnership, Profit and Loss, Mensuration- Areas and Volumes.

English Comprehension: Synonyms, Antonyms, Analogies, Idioms and Phrases, One Word Substitution, Sentence Improvement, Rearrangement of Words in Sentence, Rearrangement of Sentence in Paragraph, Fill in the blanks and Cloze Tests, Common Errors, Spotting Errors, Inappropriate Usage of Words, Spelling Mistakes (English Usage).

CLAT Eligibility Criteria:

(A) Essential Academic Qualifications:

 

(i) UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME [Five Year Integrated Law Degree (Hons)]

 

Educational Qualification: A Pass in 10+2 or an equivalent examination with a minimum of (i) Forty-Five percentage (45%) of marks in case of candidates belonging to unreserved/OBC/Specially Abled Persons/NRI/NRI Sponsored categories and (ii) Forty percentage (40%) of marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in March/April, 2018 are also eligible to apply.

 

(ii) POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMME (One Year LL.M. Degree)

 

Educational Qualification: An LL.B. Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty-Five percentage (55%) of marks in case of candidates belonging to unreserved/OBC/Specially Abled Persons/NRI/NRI Sponsored categories and Fifty percentage (50%) of marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May, 2018 are also eligible to apply.

 

(B) Age Limit: No prescribed maximum age limit for PG courses.

How to Apply

 

Log on to the website  http://www.clat.ac.in and Register with a valid Email ID and Phone number.

Candidate should provide all the required details while filling up the Online Registration/ Application Forms. Mandatory fields are marked with * (asterisk) sign.

 

On submission of the Registration Form, you will receive your User ID on the registered email address and Password as an SMS on the registered mobile number from the Administrator with the subject line CAT 2018 Login Details. Ensure that you check your mailbox immediately and that it is not considered as spam mail.

 

Using the system generated User ID and Password received, you can login as “Sign In for Existing User” on the website and fill up the other details such as Personal Details, Contact Details, Essential Qualification details (Percentage of Marks/CGPA of Boards/ College/ University information), Programme in which the candidate wishes to appear (UG Course or PG Course), Selecting Test Centres and NLUs.

 

Upload the latest Photograph (30 mm x 45 mm) (size not more than 100 KB, JPG/JPEG format), signature (maximum 80 KB in JPG/JPEG format) and certificates in jpeg format.

 

Candidate should check all the entries filled in the online application form once, before final submission. In case of any discrepancy, relevant entry may be corrected/ edited. After final submission of online application, no change in any particular shall be allowed.

 

After filling online application, the candidates are required to make fee. Fee can be paid through Visa/ Mastercard/ Maestro Credit/ Debit card.
